“I’ve tried everything else”
How many times have I heard that from someone who has come to me for hypnotherapy?
Whilst it would be nice for people if they didn’t struggle with their problems for so long before they come for hypnotherapy, it isn’t an issue for us therapists, we know that we have a very effective tool available to help.
In fact, if you have tried all manner of other approaches, you have stored up a lot of useful knowledge about what does and doesn’t work for you. All that is valuable information for your mind to work with. As Thomas Eddison put it: “Just because something doesn't do what you planned it to do in the first place doesn't mean it's useless....”
Also, let’s face it, hypnotherapy isn’t usually the first thing you would think of trying, is it? Although once you discover its potential, you begin to see how many ways it can be used in your life. That is when you can take full advantage of self-hypnosis (I almost always teach this to my clients, a little bonus they can take away with them).
So, when should you turn to hypnotherapy?
A lot depends on the problem or issue you want to address and how you feel about it.
For example, Smokers who want to stop smoking, benefit from striking while the iron (or is that butt?) is hot and going with that decision to make an appointment as soon as they can. The desire to give up is the strongest aid to success and shouldn’t be allowed to dissipate.
If you are pregnant and considering hypnobirthing however, it is most effective after the 4th month of pregnancy, although it is best to try to give yourself at least 6 weeks before your baby is expected so that you can enjoy the full benefits of combining the hypnotherapy sessions with practice. Some people decide to use hypnobirthing as a result of a previous negative experience, or due to a fear of the birth process, in these cases I would suggest starting as soon as your pregnancy is established. The easibirthing® course is still 5 sessions, but you can benefit from the ongoing support throughout your pregnancy.
Generally, hypnotherapy is appropriate when you feel you need help making a change.
Most people can benefit from hypnotherapy .
