About Hypnotherapy
Simply put, Hypnotherapy is the application of hypnosis in a therapeutic context. Hypnosis brings about a state of mind – a different state of consciousness, generally referred to as a trance - which allows the introduction of beneficial suggestions, ideas and images which can provide the foundations for profound changes in behaviour. This trance allows your mind to focus intently and the therapist can offer suggestions which are available to deeper levels of your (unconscious) mind which can work with these new ideas to help create new behaviours for you. The trance is a normal state of mind, everyone drops into this naturally at frequent intervals, it is comfortable and safe and feels ‘normal’. Hypnotherapy uses the state of hypnosis to address a range of medical and psychological conditions by bypassing the critical, conscious mind, which is responsible for active decision making and assessments, then talking directly to your unconscious, which deals with learned, automatic behaviour. “It is estimated that 85% of people will respond at some level to clinical hypnotherapy.” BSCH It is not a magic solution, but clinical hypnotherapy offers you a safe, natural approach to many problems. By looking for a hypnotherapist you are already taking an important step towards the solution you are seeking. If you feel that hypnotherapy may be useful for you, please get in touch to: make an appointment; join a group session; or discuss any remaining questions you may have. |
The BSCH have provided a useful leaflet about hypnosis & hypnotherapy which you can download here:
